toomanypaws
Great pics everyone. I do pretty good w/ the front poses but haven't mastered the rear view. Trying to get a pic of my cairns butt. Do I need a life or what. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
FinnsMom
Hi all.. newbie here This is my first post.. I have a cute doggy butt picture of my Cairn, Rocky, when he was 10 weeks old. It was taken this last October, on the day we picked him up. Would it be a problem if I used a younger picture of him, even if the information that goes along with the picture states that he is 6 months old now? Either that, or I will just have to chase him around with the camera. It shouldn't take too long, he is mostly camera shy anyway. I can always get a shot of that rear, although he is in need of some grooming I would post it in here, but it is too big to attach Thanks! FinnsMom
It isn't a close up of him doing anything in particular, its just a eager stance while I am doing something in the food department while we were camping haha. I just thought he had the cutest little butt, and he had just been handstripped by the breeder, maybe the week before we picked him up, so you could see it. He's a long haired ball of fur now (I lack the understanding of how to pull hair out of a dog without making him squirm) Rocky is our first Cairn, and he is such a ball of energy!! Everything to him, that day was new, because we drove from WA to OR to pick him up, and spent the rest of the weekend at a campground not far away.. He absolutely loves riding in, or just being in the motorhome!! As soon as I find that picture, it will be in that contest, and if I can figure out how to make it smaller, I will post it in here. FinnsMom
Okay I have a smaller picture of the one I entered in the contest, and I also have one of the hairy thing now. What a difference! Enjoy! Wanda
FinnsMom
One more try for Rocky's younger butt, the one that is actually in the contest, I will figure out how to use that attachment thing if it takes all day!

toomanypaws
Rocky color was gorgeous as a pup. Just curious what color he is now. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
FinnsMom
Here is one more picture... This was taken today. This is at 6 months, I think he's actually 6-1/2 months, I did my calculations wrong! If you get tired of seeing pictures of Rocky ( his pedigree name is Traveling Rockstar), you can just ask me to stop.. I have a billion shots of him in here! bubba
Your Rocky looks like our Pluto did.....he was a cairn we got from the Humane Society in the early 80's for the whopping price of $10! He was about the best dog, actually, probably the best dog we have ever had the honor of owning. We would have had another cairn sooner, but I really had no clue what type dog he was, and it wasn't till I started researching for a new dog that I really found out. pat. lsquarey
Oh my..I didn't know that Cairns came in black and tan! What a wonderful and unique color Rocky has. Thank you for sharing.
bradl
Erm, well in the strictest sense, Cairns don't come in black and tan, despite this obvious evidence to the contrary I've heard from experienced breeders that once in a blue moon one will turn up - they are thought to be a genetic throwback to one of the constituent breeds in the genetic pre-history of the Cairn. These dogs are immediately removed from the breeding program and placed as pets, where they are of course loved like any other Cairn. In a similar vein, I've heard breeders observe that puppies with terribly incorrect fluffy coats are sometimes popular - because they are cute - even as the breeder tries frantically to breed away from incorrect, soft coats. FinnsMom
Hi All! I am so glad you like the pictures of Rocky .. as you can tell I love taking them. (Brad), I noticed that there is a note in the forum rules about attaching too many pictures. Am I at risk of getting into trouble? I certainly don't want to do that. I read where you need to remove them if it gets out of hand. I will gladly add more pictures if I am able to. Please let me know if it is alright before I do. I have been wrestling with Rocky trying to get some of him stripped, as I don't have a table (wiggle wiggle, he's all over the place ), and I am using a pumice stone, because I can break a very small piece off and gently work it, without him really noticing I am doing it.. of course there is a small piece of pepperoni stick in my fist as I go around with the other hand. I got the stone from Jane, and she showed me how to use it when we picked him up. It definitely roughs his coat up, but looks neat. He has a real problem with his ears, though. They look huge, but they really aren't, they just have an inch or so of hair sticking up past the actual ear, that I can't seem to grab onto, its really soft hair. Looks like it really hurts, and I know his teeth do! I am sure glad all the baby teeth are gone or I hope they are.. Wanda
bradl
Don't worry overmuch about the pics, RockysMom. Generally, one or two at a time is fine. A rule of thumb is to have something to say about each one - and not just a caption. A picture should serve a purpose, even if the purpose is just to make a smile. I'll shoot you a private note if I think you've gone bonkers. It can be hard to get those darn ear tips. I like to use finger cots for grip. (On ear hair in particular, I'm careful to pull just a very few at a time, too.) One person I know likes to use a little ear powder - a drying powder you can sprinkle in dogs ears - sprinkled on the hair to increase grip. It acts like a gymnast's rosin. CAIRNTALK: Questions? FinnsMom
Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them a try, and also, for the info on qty of pics I can attach, yep just let me know, and I will stop. Oh and are we supposed to pull that hair out of their ears(ouch!), and if so, how much and how far down? I didn't know if I was supposed to do that. I have never had a furry dog like this before Haha... As for another picture, well here goes.. This was taken at Jane's after he was born, and he is lying next to Sammy, his bro.. So innocent back then. Enjoy! Wanda

bradl
Glad you found it of use. FinnsMom
Yes he is.. haha.. The cream colors are coming out from his mama. The black seems to be disappearing from his face. I have one more picture to add, that I want you all to see, and I won't add any more after this one.. unless someone begs me!! As far as the way he looks, I really want to handstrip him, but I think I need a movie that I can rewind over and over haha.. Or Bradl mentioned that there is a Race Day they have, where they have a hands on grooming demonstration. I think that would be great, although where and when is it?? This picture is when he was a week old I believe.... Wanda
