wheezie23
This weekend while I was grooming Tucker, I was working on his tail when I noticed that he has black roots! It's only on the top two thirds of his tail, but if you part the blonde hairs, it's all black underneath! Anyone else see this?? We cracked up because he looks like he's in need of a bleach touch up!! Eliz222
OMG! I noticed the same thing with Scout!!!! Her hair was starting to part, so I used the MCK on her back. I looked closely at her hair roots and it's all coming in red!!! She was totally black when she was a puppy, and then turned into a grey brindle. She started getting red highlights, on her back, a few months ago. Now, she looks like she needs her hair dyed! It's really funny looking...I wonder if she will turn all red?? Bekah
When Liddy was a puppy she had red tips on a few hairs behind her ears. It looked like she had a frost/dye done. These Cairn coats are as funny as their personalities!
Apollo8it
Apollo's tail was a solid red with a black tip (we called it his stinger). Now it is predominately black with some red and I swear an orange tip. ****Apollo****
Guest pjoes_girl
mine is about 4 and a half months and he was very dark brindle, now his roots are wheaten, and getting a lil greyness too... funny isn't it
FinnsMom
The roots on Rocky's back and tail are all mixed gray and black... I wonder what he will look like later? I need to really take him to a professional groomer in the area who knows how to handstrip a Cairn. I just don't know where one is in my area. Petsmart will not do it anymore, because it is too time consuming. I have tried it myself with either a handstripping knife or a pumice stone, and I just don't really seem to get anywhere. His hair is still really long and curly, especially on his neck. He hates it. Grr. Wanda
toomanypaws
I noticed Kiara (3 1/2) is getting darker. I switched brands of dog food and told my dh that I started seeing a difference in her coat only after a few weeks. Not that it really is the dogfood, but she is definitely looking like a dark red brindle. Abbey (15 mths) has stayed pretty much the same wheaten color, maybe a little more red and more black in her mask. Hannah (almost 10 mths), who I wanted dark, is getting more cream in her sides. I used the MCK on her tonight and was amazed at how light she is getting. Her face is still black w/ auburn in her muzzle. I guess that's why the breeder called her a cream brindle. I'm still hoping in years to come that she goes back to black. It is fun seeing these little miracle colored dogs change color. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
bradl
It's ironic because a couple of miles from the breeder where you got Rocky there is a boarding kennel (owned by an elderly and long-time Cairn breeder) who has a groomer who DOES do stripping. I urge you to go to some shows in WA. Seattle has an all-breed show in a couple of weeks - maybe ask around to see if you can find someone to groom Rocky on an occasional basis. Most exhibitors in WA will know Jane and may be able to help you find a local resource. CAIRNTALK: Questions? Eliz222
I took some pictures of my dogs "dyed" hair. Here is Finch's changing coat. She's a red brindle and now some of her hair that was not red, is coming in red. Here is Scout changing coat. Scout's is more pronounced since she is mostly a grey brindle with some red highlights and is now changing to a red brindle. Scout is beginning to look like a Billy Goat! Her chin hair is all red, while the rest of her face is still mostly grey. Sorry about the terrible picture!
