hallswel
I started going to the ATC and there is so much information, wow it was fun they all had terriers and Rebel was so good. They had an earth dog demo and you got to try your dog, I stayed in the background but I learned a lot about it. Here are some of the terriers meeting a couple of mice. I am going to join, next month they are having a training session on how to show your dog. It is a good place for a novice to go and I had a great time! Darsey
Hallswel, I didn't know atlanta had an terrier club, I have been searching on the net and haven't found anything this way. I so would love to go to some local events. Can you send me some info about them? Or point me in the way of a website? I would love for Toto to meet some other pups, dogs, and people! - Darsey
AllAboutPetey
The web site is atlantaterrierclub.org. We are considering joining and have downloaded the application, but don't have a sponsor. They held an Earth Dog event in February...wish we had gone to check it out.
bradl
I can't recommend joining a terrier (or Cairn) club enough. Good fun with like-minded folks. Like Cairn Talk, only with better food :-) CAIRNTALK: Questions? hallswel
I checked with the breeder I got Rebel from and asked your questions and here is the answer. "Yes, the ATC encourages non-members to visit and attend functions any time! When visitors attend, they shouldn't have any trouble asking someone in the ATC to sponsor their membership application, or I would be delighted to." There is a Terrier Parade in Piedmont Park in June that would be loads of FUN! Darsey
I think that that would be great to go to! Do you think we could bring family? My son would love to see so many pups and dogs at once! - Darsey

hallswel
Cathy, The rats are the prey for the earth dog events many of the terriers had never even seen a rat and they were being introduced to them. If you look at the AKC web site they explain earth dog, Cairns were originally bred as workers and this event simulates a Cairn running through the rocks or cairns in Scotland after prey. CathyAnn
Kinda figured that's what they were for...... . So, when the 'winner' gets the mousie, then what? If you recall, Piper killed many possum last summer and fall. He actually shook one so hard, it split in half!!! Aaaaak!!! bradl
Just in case anyone wonders - in an AKC test the quarry (rats) are very well cared for and come to no harm. They are in a protective wire cage which is itself behind thick bars. CAIRNTALK: Questions? toomanypaws
My Kiara would love an earth dog even around here, but there's nothing available. She is forever staring down my dd's guinea pig and hamster who are protected by their cage. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
