Guest LynneO
My husband went out on Saturday with our two children and our 11month old Cairn. They went to a nature preserve and hiked around the woods. When they got to the pond our Cairn Rudy jumped right in! This took my husband by complete surprise. He swam in a circle and loved it. My husband had him on a leash the whole time and didn't dare let go. So they all hiked some more and on the way back past the pond in goes Rudy again. We had no idea he would like water so much. So I was just curious if there were other Cairns here who like to swim?
Eliz222
Scout and Finch only use the baby pool at home. Scout loves the baby pool! She lays in the water all the time. Finch won't touch the water except to drink from it!
bubba
Our old cairn, Pluto, would jump off our boat in Hoods Canal and swim all over the place....he loved it! Cooper barely will put his toes in it, but Yoda enjoys it, although he hasn't swam yet. pat. Children don't care how much you know...they want to know how much you care. savannahsmom35
Savannah loves water! She loves to swim in our pool or to "attack" the sprinklers and hose that we use to drain the pool. Here she is below attacking the water that we backwashed from the pool. We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. -M. Acklam Savannah's Dogster Page
kayharley
Elliott is another water freak....I can't go near the hose without him acting like a dork and forget using the sprinkler! Even though the water flow coming out of it is quite forceful, he gets his mouth on it and tries to bite it..absolutely hysterical. Maddy is more laid back and will jump in the kiddie pool from time to time. Winnie, she's a sun freak and does not like being near water.
toomanypaws
Kiara, Abbey, and Hannah have a kiddie pool. Kiara isn't as interested in it as Abbey & Hannah. Abbey will jump in and out and Hannah will wade around in it. Here's a picture of Abbey and "big brother" Thor waiting for the pool to fill. Here's one more of my dd teasing Kiara (one of the left) by holding her toy under water. Abbey is getting ready to jump out and Thor is just waiting to jump in. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Eliz222
Savannah is such a doll....what a cute picture...she looks like she's "taken on" the water...lol! Beth, it looks like you need a bigger pool!
CathyAnn
Wonderful pics!!! As I have commented before, Toto used to love the water from the backwash hose from our pool, too. She would follow the "bulge" all the way down to end of the hose and stick her face right in the hard blast of water and bite, bite, bite it!! We have since moved and no longer have a pool. It sure does bring back happy memories of what a nutball she was in her younger days! Cathy Cathy and Piper
toomanypaws
Beth, it looks like you need a bigger pool! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Shoe, I've had inground pools in the past but I can't remember having this much fun. , but then, I didn't have cairns then. We do have a clubhouse pool that we enjoy. You're right, we do need a slightly larger kiddie pool. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Toto times 2
The boys will wade in the water but not much and have to roll in the sand immediately to get dry. I have been thinking af trying a pool again. Ghillie didn't like it when he was little but he might now if Smokey would try it. We have to watch standing water because of mosquitoes so I guess I would have to empty it every night. I keep my water barrel covered with screen so I could probably do that with the pool too. kayharley
That is a wonderful picture. Our kiddie pool is about the same size but since I saw Elliott peeing in it the other day, I stay OUT!!
Scully'sMom
but since I saw Elliott peeing in it the other day, I stay OUT!! And yet ANOTHER hysterical Helliott moment. I just love that little guy. Great water pics everyone. I can't decide whether to try a kiddie pool or not. Scully hates getting a bath but yet she loves "swimming" in the tupperware containers or the little bucket of water I put out for her to drink from. With my luck I'll buy the pool and she'll hate it. For those of you who have the kiddie pool do you pick them up and put them in or can they get in by themselves?
Eliz222
Joanne, they can climb in without a problem. Scout loves her pool! She will climb in, turn around, and then lay in it...even if it's freezing cold water! I will pick up Finch and place her in the water, but she climbs right out. I'm hoping, some day, that she will like it, but I'm not holding my breath!
bradl
Shoe, we've got at least one who will only get in to bob for hotdog slices. We never made a swimmer out of her, but she did win the hot-dog-bobbing contest at Race Day one year! CAIRNTALK: Questions? toomanypaws
Joanne, Hannah is little and at first I didn't think she'd jump in. Once she jumped high enough, she knew she could do it. It's funny, Kiara is almost twice her size and afraid to jump in. Maybe if I try Brad's idea w/ hotdog slices, Kiara will be more than thrilled to get a little wet. Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
Linda
We just returned from a 7-month cruise to the Bahamas & Florida on our sail boat. Trapper (our almost 4-year-old rescue pup) LOVES the water. Be it swimming on the Chesapeake Bay, dodging waves in Miami Beach or fetching floaty things in the blue Bahamas waters, he's a happy pooch! Murphy, our 2-year-old princess, likes the water and swims well but is afraid of surf. Both can swim with their life jackets on, but do best unfettered & free. I have made sure they know where shore is and keep an extra eye on them when ducks & seagulls are around. Trapper will, on occasion, take off into the water after birds. He doesn't realize how far out he is or how deep it is. So, I naturally, stand by & bring him back in to shore.
