Hurricane coming, WE'RE EVACUATING!

TooManyPaws,

I just read your post from last week since I've been on vacation. Your sister sounds like my daughter and her husband. They won't let us bring Tink into their new house, and it hurts my feelings. She was raised with a Cairn that she thought was her brother, but now that she has her own home and children and a husband who doesn't like pets in the house her whole attitude has changed. We were there two weeks ago and they wouldn't let Tink even sleep in her crate in the laundry room, so we left her in the garage. My dh says we will just not go spend the night again because it is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter for her to stay in the garage. They just live 1 1/2 hour away, so we will make day trips from now on. Guess I didn't raise her right  !!!

Hope you made it through the storm well. We are getting the rains here in Memphis today.

Hello everyone and thanks for thinking about us. We did fine through the hurricane but did lose power for almost 24 hrs. The winds got pretty intense but didn't seem to bother the cairns. By the afternoon, it stopped raining and we were able to let them run in the yard. They looked so cute w/ that "wind-blown" look. We picked up 3 garbage bags full of small branches, nothing major. Last night, we sat around the kitchen table w/ a battery powered lamp playing the game Clue w/ our dd and had Kiara, Abbey & Hannah all playing around our feet. My sister did call a few times checking how we were doing. I know she really cares and I would never impose on her w/ all of the dogs if it hadn't been an emergency. I guess I'm different because if someone needed to evacuate w/ pets, dh and I would find a way to accomodate them.

This morning dh went out the kitchen door and pressed the garage door opener w/o securing the baby gate first and out ran Hannah. You realize just how much you love your cairn when something like this happens. My heart immediately began racing when I heard dh yell something about the gate and Hannahs lose.

I ran to the door to see Hannah running around dh's feet in the driveway and changed my voice to this silly sound I make for her and told her to come get a treat and she came running to the door. This little one is so not like Kiara!

It's hot today so I'm getting their kiddie pool out of the garage and will set it up again for them. I heard the saying that a dog leaves a paw print on your heart. Well, I love these three so much, my heart must be a shape of a paw print. :D

Phew! I'm SO glad to hear that all is well there. You had a lot of prayers going for you guys.

I like that saying about the paw print. It's amazing the love that we have for these little ones - and the love they have for us.

So I guess that means you won't be coming to Ct....I had iced tea brewing, wine chilling, snacks ready, dog treats opened, gates closed, yard clean....I'm so sad that I'm having no company :(

BUT I'm glad old nasty Mother Nature gave you all a break.

Glad you made it through okay! Last year my mom, who lives in Port St. Lucie evacuated for Frances and since she knew power would probably be out for a while drove all the way to DC (She had very limited damage possibly because my grandmother Frances was watching over from above)! We have a place for you and your menagerie if you ever make it as far as New York. We should start a thread on people who complain you don't visit, but want the Cairns to stay in the garage (AS IF!).

Beth I had to laugh about the wood floors....we have beautiful wood floors all through our house and your sister would have a stroke if she saw the way my babies power slide around the corners!!!! LOL To each their own I guess...but wood floors dont give you doggie kisses!!!

Heck, my golden retriever took care of my floors the first month we lived here....oh well!!!
